A drone is a machine that flies based on inputs from a remote controller. You'll most likely find the 2 brands, DJI and FPV. I use FPV more as I like doing more precise tricks and don't like the things implemented into DJI drones.
What's the difference between the two? DJI is more friendly to beginners and will self level and don't allow precise tricks due to it self leveling. Think of trying to do a backflip while your body is trying to orient yourself into a standing position. For FPV, you control everything and it doesn't level but it does allow for precise tricks. DJI has more drones that don't use the basic drone controller, which makes them more beginner friendly. FPV use the basic drone controller way more and are for intermediates and pros.
It depends on your wants and needs. If you want to begin flying drones and already have flew on a simulator, then get a DJI and fly that until you're ready to learn how to fly an FPV. If you're an intermediate, get an FPV and learn some tricks. The drones also get limited from the company's software, take that into account when buying a drone.
Drones work based on a lot of physics. There are normally 4 fans on a drone which allow it to balance out with gravity and therefore fly, and drones lean forward allowing themselves to let their fans force them up and forward. Some drones have more powerful fans and some have cases other their fans, leading to less power but more safety.
Firstly, you'll want a controller and a computer, get a drone flying simulator and practice for a few hours. After you think you're ready, buy a drone, which I recommend a tiny whoop. Fly it, get more experience and better drones, learn some tricks and then you're a drone pilot.
